How it went

Their story

Patri and Juanma’s was an afternoon wedding, at the end of July. They married in church at the Convento de Santa Clara in Moguer, with Father Antonio Romero Padilla. Founded in 1337 for Poor Clare nuns, the convent is Gothic-Mudéjar and is where, on their return from the first voyage, Columbus and the other sailors from Moguer spent the first night, keeping the vow they had made at sea during a storm. From Moguer they went to El Ranchito, in Almonte, a few kilometres from El Rocío. As the afternoon drew in, in the golden light, they slipped away alone to the lake jetty: the two of them, a classic car and a dirt track. Then dinner in the garden, under hanging lamps and among tables of white roses, and a party with a live violin, fire, sparkler fountains and a hora loca of feathers and sombreros. Before all of that, Patri and Juanma had their pre-wedding in Marrakech and across Morocco, and we went with them: a field of golden grass at sunset, a riad with tea, a harbour of blue boats and a beach with horses. The pre-wedding film is on our El Ranchito page.

GETTING READY

Getting ready. Where it all begins.

Patri, wearing the tiara and the veil, got ready before the ceremony; Juanma walked out into the street of a whitewashed village, waving, surrounded by his friends in dark suits.

Where it all starts.

CEREMONY

The ceremony at the Convento de Santa Clara.

It was a church ceremony, at the Convento de Santa Clara in Moguer, officiated by Father Antonio Romero Padilla. At the door, the classic car and Patri’s long veil in the wind; inside, she entered with the veil over her face and the guests looking at her; on the way out, a shower of rice and confetti.

Absolute respect.

JUST THE TWO

Just the two of them. After the “I do”.

After the ceremony they slipped away alone to the lake jetty at El Ranchito, at the hour when the light turns golden: the classic car, a dirt track, the veil in the air and a few minutes for the two of them.

Only the two of you.

DRINKS & DINNER

The celebration at El Ranchito.

The celebration was in the garden at El Ranchito, with catering by Catering Dávila, run by Rebeka Dávila: sparkler fountains as they walked in at night, a toast under hanging lamps and tables covered in white roses.

An unforgettable celebration.

PARTY

The party. When it all lets go.

The night went on with a live violin, an aerial silk act, a fire show and the hora loca by Hora Loca Oficial: feathers, sunglasses and sombreros to the very end.

The camera dances with you.

Why here

Why get married at El Ranchito, in El Rocío

Patri and Juanma married in Moguer and celebrated at El Ranchito, in Almonte, a few kilometres from El Rocío. This is what the estate offers, according to its website, and why a wedding like theirs fits here.

/01/

A botanical garden of thirty thousand square metres

According to its website, the garden mixes native species, such as cork oaks and aromatic plants, with exotic ones, such as coconut palms or the floss silk tree by the pool, and it holds up to 3,000 guests at a banquet or cocktail. Patri and Juanma’s dinner was here, under hanging lamps.

/02/

A lake with a jetty

The estate offers ceremonies on a jetty over the natural lake formed by the Caño Marín stream, reached by a walkway. Patri and Juanma married in Moguer, so we used it for their time alone, with the afternoon light on the water.

/03/

Doñana next door

According to its website, the waters of the Caño Marín are “a mirror of Doñana”: you can see a wide variety of birdlife, including some threatened species. A wedding here has the countryside as a backdrop from the first minute.

/04/

An afternoon wedding in the middle of summer

In July, when they married, summer in the marshes is fierce. An afternoon wedding solves it: the ceremony and the time alone fall when the sun goes down, and at night the garden is the best place to be.

/05/

An hour and twenty from Seville

From Seville airport it is 93 kilometres, an hour and twenty minutes by car; from Faro airport, 178, two hours and twenty. For guests from abroad, the easy way is to land in Seville and book a coach for the way there and back.

Questions

What people ask us about this wedding

Can the ceremony be held at the Convento de Santa Clara, in Moguer?

Patri and Juanma were married there on 27 July 2024, in a Catholic ceremony, with Father Antonio Romero Padilla. Founded in 1337 for Poor Clare nuns, the convent is Gothic-Mudéjar and keeps the memory of the Columbus vow: on their return from the first voyage, Columbus and the sailors from Moguer spent the first night in its church, keeping the promise they had made at sea during a storm. For dates and conditions for a ceremony, ask the convent directly.

What was Patri and Juanma’s wedding at El Ranchito like?

An afternoon wedding at the end of July: a church ceremony in Moguer, then on to the estate, where the couple slipped away alone to the lake jetty in the golden light. After that, dinner in the garden and a party with a live violin, fire, aerial silks and a hora loca. Their frames, on this page, are grouped by act: getting ready, ceremony, time alone, celebration and party.

What is a hora loca and how is it filmed?

It is the stretch of the party when headdresses, sunglasses and sombreros are handed out and the dance floor turns into carnival. At this wedding it was run by Hora Loca Oficial, with white feathers, rhinestone sunglasses and sombreros. There are two of us, we move among the crowd and what we look for is not posing, but the couple in the middle, visibly enjoying themselves.

Who worked on this wedding?

El Ranchito provided the venue; Catering Dávila, run by Rebeka Dávila, the catering; Hora Loca Oficial, the hora loca; Jesús Martínez, the photography; and the video is ours. The images on this page are frames from our video, not his photographs. All of them, in “Who made this wedding”.

Did they have a pre-wedding?

Yes: in Marrakech and across Morocco, and we went with them. The pre-wedding film is on our El Ranchito page, next to the wedding film.
